Voices from the Roots, Chapters 1–5: Turkish Audio E-Book Series (PDF + MP3)

Voices from the Roots (Köklerden Sesler) is a series of audio stories about Eylül, a girl growing up abroad with two languages. This bundle has all five chapters in one download. It follows Eylül from a Bayram morning far from her grandmother to her first visit and the trip home.

The five chapters

• Chapter 1: Bayram Morning (Bayram Sabahı), 8 min 25 sec of audio. On Bayram morning, Eylül wakes up in a city where everyone speaks another language.
• Chapter 2: The Smell Inside the Chest (Sandıktaki Koku), 7 min 28 sec of audio. A small chest arrives from Grandma.
• Chapter 3: A Thin Folk Song (İnce Bir Türkü), 7 min 12 sec of audio. Nobody remembers the second line of the folk song on Grandma’s cassette, except Aunt Zeynep, who is ninety.
• Chapter 4: Inside the Suitcase (Bavulun İçinde), 8 min 05 sec of audio. Eylül packs for her first trip to see Grandma: her word notebook, the cassette and Aunt Zeynep’s letter, with Dino tucked into a corner to count the clouds.
• Chapter 5: Return Ticket (Dönüş Bileti), 8 min 05 sec of audio. On the last morning, Grandma makes tea on the balcony and gives Eylül a jar, a promise and a letter.
