The five matches

Who you might turn out to be

Every question belongs to a topic, and your strongest topic decides your character.

Eylül — The Word Collector. Turkish phrases. You hear a Turkish word you love and keep it for later.

Filiz — The Joyful Mess-Maker. Food and tea. You like it loud, colorful and shared, just like a big breakfast table.

Ahmet — The Riddle Solver. Culture and traditions. Every tradition is a small puzzle, and you enjoy finding the story inside it.

Pingucan — The Cheerful Explorer. Places and landmarks. Weather and long trips never slow you down. You wrap up warm and go.

Defne — The Melody Hummer. Arts and music. You catch the tune first and find the words hidden inside it later.

Fewer correct answers? You still get a character — the quiz is kind, not a school report.

Six things the quiz teaches you

Every question comes with a one-line explanation, so even a wrong answer leaves you slightly more Turkish than before.

  • Hoş geldin welcomes one person, hoş geldiniz is the polite or plural form, and the reply is hoş bulduk.
  • Afiyet olsun is the warm wish around a meal, and elinize sağlık (“health to your hands”) thanks the cook.
  • Tea comes in a slim-waisted tulip glass and is brewed in a çaydanlık: two pots stacked together.
  • A cezve is the small long-handled pot for Turkish coffee.
  • A nazar boncuğu is a blue bead believed to protect against the evil eye.
  • Ebru is paper marbling: colors are floated on water and lifted onto paper.

Culture quiz — FAQ

How does the character match work?

Every question belongs to a topic. A correct answer earns two points for its topic and a wrong answer earns one, so everyone gets a match. The topic with the most points decides your character: Eylül for Turkish phrases, Filiz for food and tea, Ahmet for culture and traditions, Pingucan for places and landmarks, and Defne for arts and music.

How long does the quiz take?

A round lasts 60 seconds of thinking time. The clock runs only while a question is open and pauses while you read the explanation. A round also ends when you have answered every question in your topic.

Do I need to speak Turkish?

No. The quiz is in English. Turkish appears only in the word or phrase you are asked about, and every answer comes with a short explanation.

Is the quiz about Islam or religion?

No. It is about everyday culture: phrases, food, tea, places and arts. A few questions touch traditions with religious roots, such as the Bayram holidays and the Mevlevi sema ceremony, and they are explained as cultural heritage, not as religious teaching. It is designed to be played at a family table with children in the room.

Can I save my result?

Yes. The Save score card button creates a picture of your result that you can keep on your device.

Does the quiz collect my data?

The quiz does not ask for a name, email address or account, and it does not send your answers anywhere. Your best scores, daily streak and badges are kept in your own browser.

Are the questions accurate?

We wrote them from everyday Turkish usage, and every answer comes with a short explanation. If you spot a mistake, please tell us through the contact page.
