Make room for words

Read the word, then choose its matching picture and name in the other language. Collect 10 picnic stamps. Take your time: there is no clock and you can try again.

Pictures and labels help beginners. A grown-up can read the words aloud. This is practice, not a test.

The story behind the game

A basket with room for every word

Deniz is packing a basket for the neighborhood’s first picnic. Every little thing in it has two names, one in Turkish and one in English. The game follows the same five things: simit (a ring of bread with sesame seeds), armut (pear), su (water), peçete (napkin) and kaşık (spoon).

Play it together: one of you reads the word, the other finds the picture. Give each other time to think. There is always room for one more word.

Quick questions

The Picnic of Little Words FAQ

Is The Picnic of Little Words free to play?

Yes. It is a free game that runs right in your browser. There is nothing to download and no account to make.

Who is it for?

It is made for children about 5 to 8 years old, to play with a grown-up or on their own. Older and younger players are welcome too.

Do we need to know Turkish?

No. Each round shows a word in one language and asks for the matching picture and name in the other language. The pictures and labels help beginners, and a grown-up can read the words aloud.

How does a round work?

You see a word in Turkish or English. Pick the picnic thing it belongs to and its name in the other language. If it is not right, look at the pictures and try again. There is no clock. After ten rounds you see how many matched on the first try and the five words you packed.

Can I switch between English and Turkish?

Yes. Use the EN and TR buttons at the top of the game. Your round and score stay the same when you switch.

Does the game save anything about me?

No. There are no accounts, timers, ads or sounds, and the game does not save or send anything about you.

Is it a test?

No. It is a short practice game for families to enjoy together. It is not a test of how much Turkish a child knows.
